Bun Cream Tea at Sally Lunn’s Eating House, Oldest House in Bath

The Sally Lunn’s Eating House is historically one of the oldest houses in Bath. The bun, known as the Bath Bun, was created by Sally Lunn in the days of Georgian Bath.

Open from breakfast ‘til dinner, the eating house is quite popular and people travel from all around the United Kingdom to make a stop at Sally Lunn’s. I like how they maintained that homey, warm and cosy feel to the eating house.

Before arriving for my two-day trip to Bath, Somerset, my partner’s sister recommended we try Sally Lunn bun, so we already had this plan. Unfortunately, he got called out to work that day, so I went alone. After hearing my review, he regrets not being able to visit Sally Lunn's eating house back then. Maybe next time?

Just the day before, I visited the Roman Bath Spa. The next day was all about visiting Sally Lunn’s then the Royal Crescent.

When I got there around midday, it was fairly busy, but service was still reasonably timely. I ordered the ‘World-Famous Sally Lunn Cream Tea’.

Random fact: as soon as I was served my English Breakfast tea, I realized that my gold necklace must have fallen out at the hotel, as I was in a bit of a rush to check out. I always like checking out of hotels on time, but amidst the rush, I forgot to fasten my necklace. So I was a bit stressed, haha!

I decided to head upstairs to the washroom to check to see if it had fallen into my coat. Being that it’s an older house, the stairway and bathroom were pretty narrow. I took my coat off in the ‘bathroom hall’, where the tiniest yet cute sink was, and I searched through my clothes. Luckily, I found the pendant, but the necklace itself was nowhere to be found.

I washed my hands, returned to the dining area and served myself some tea. It was lovely.

Soon after, I got my cream tea with the famous Sally Lunn Bath bun. It was a giant bun. I did not search for photos beforehand, so a bun almost as large as the plate itself was a pleasant surprise! It was good value, I’d say.

The verdict??

It was delicious!

To ,be fair, I have knowhave n for a while now that I love afternoon cream teas. However, this was a unique version. The bun was perfectly light and fluffy with just the right balance of savoury and sweet. And the butter spread and jam were so tasty! I enjoyed this Bath bun cream tea at Sally Lunn’s.

I always prep my cream teas with the clotted cream and then the strawberry jam; as a newly ‘adopted’ Devon gal, it’s a given.

For those of you who are wondering if I ever found my necklace, I did! I returned to the hotel, and it was haphazardly, almost mockingly, chilling on the carpet floor. Tsk!
