9 of the Best Lisbon Restaurants & Cafés

We spent five days and four nights in Lisbon, Portugal. Our hotel had the best breakfast spreads, so we only really had to eat out for lunch and dinner. We also visited a café with great drinks and the best vibes on our last night.

Here is a list of the memorable places we tried and my thoughts on the food and ambience.

Honest Greens, Chiado & Principe Real

For some reason, we ate many healthy meals on our trip. Honest Greens was one of our go-to spots. It was a one-minute walk from our hotel and served some of our favourite salads to date.

After trying the Chiado location several times, choosing their Principe Real location was a no-brainer. Honest Greens has a nice, relaxing ambience with its warm lighting, industrial yet earthy décor, and many plants and ceramics.

The salads had a nice mix of textures and vibrancy, filling you and making you feel much better after eating. The grilled chicken was tasty, and the salad dressing and sauces were the perfect finishing touches. You can tell that you're consuming something that your body would love you for.

Honorato, Rio

This trip happened just before Dear Travels; otherwise, I’d have been extra careful to secure some photos. I do not know where the burger photo disappeared, but our burgers were fully stacked! We had the Honorato burger and X-XL burger, and that bottle is actually a massive lager beer.

The Honorato burger was a beef burger with lettuce, tomato, corn, bacon, egg, cheddar, and garlic mayo.

The X-XL burger was massive, much more grand than expected. The beef burger contained lettuce, cheddar, bacon, caramelized red onions, and chipotle mayo.

Each burger patty was about one inch or more thick. So you can only imagine what that X-XL burger looked like!

As for the dessert, I had the Banoffee pie pictured. It was my first time having banoffee pie, and it was delicious! We also had an expresso shot and it was pretty standard. Overall a nice way or end our day after our trip to the Lisbon Aquarium.

Marisqueira Azul, Praça do Comércio

Marisqueira Azul will always be remembered as the first restaurant we ate at in Lisbon. We still had our suitcases with us at the time. Our octopus salad starter, combined with fresh toasted baguette slices, was fresh and flavourful. Portugal is big on octopus and other seafood, so it was nice to have that as an introduction to authentic Portuguese cuisine.

I wasn’t sure what to get, so I had a sirloin steak sandwich with fries, and my partner had their roasted market fish with potatoes and sautéed vegetables. Both our main meals were pretty good.

What made this spot most memorable, though, was its ambience. You’re sitting right by the square at Praça do Comércio, and the view sets the scene for that bright, sunny day.

Castelo de São Jorge, Lisboa

You would have to pay to enter the castle grounds, but if you do, I recommend checking out their café. The view is spectacular, and the sandwiches with chips and beer were great, so that’s a plus!

Organi Chiado, Lisboa

One of my favourite vegan meals is on their menu, which mentions, “Our dishes vary daily. We have a limited menu because all dishes are made on the day with fresh products, without microwaves, processed or pre-made food. Elaborated according to the time of year and the products available to us.”

The meals were hearty and tasty. I was surprised at how great the vegan sausages were. Also, their ‘no-cheesecake’ is a must-have!

Pizzeria Mezzogiorno, Lisboa

That picture on the left makes me laugh so much that I had to crop it a bit. The cheeky smile gets me every time; I love a good cheesecake!

My prawn risotto was rich and tasty and paired well with our white wine. My partner had the mushroom risotto, and I also tasted it. It was packed with flavour. Overall, it was a beautiful evening out with relaxing music.

Derilium Café Lisboa, Lisboa

At Delirium Café, the vibes were immaculate and the drinks were strong. It was our last night in Portugal so we wanted to hang out in a less traditional touristy place. The service was excellent as well.

Café Império Restelo, Av. da Torre de Belém

We had a quick bite to eat here before we checked out Torre de Belém. The price of our meals was almost half what we had been regularly paying in the heart of Lisbon city centre. If you can, try to travel outside the traditional tourist-heavy areas, as you can get many excellent meals for less.

This was our first time ordering steak here, so imagine our surprise when it came served in a bowl of sweet sauce and topped with a sunny-side-up egg. Recently, I learned that this steak style is called Bife á Marrare. It was nice to have such a twist on a traditional steak. It was flavourful and just what I needed.

By the way, I’m pretty picky about fries, but these were perfectly crispy, freshly prepared, and well-seasoned.

Despite a language barrier, the staff were keen on providing excellent service.

Contra, Lisboa

Overlooking the boats at the Doca de Santo Amaro (Santo Amaro Dock) was a great way to enjoy our dinner. Both meals were delicious.

The cocktails we had were a bit on the sweeter side (I didn’t taste the alcohol as much), but they paired well with our meals and desserts.

The lemon méringue presentation surprised me as the méringue fully encapsulated the pie. It was also presented with a very tart lime sorbet that gave that citrusy kick to the dessert.

Honourable mention: Dear Lisbon - Palace Chiado, Lisboa

I just wanted to share a picture from one of our breakfast spreads from the hotel we stayed at during our trip to Lisbon.

The bread, pastries, fruits, and juice were always fresh, and the cappuccino coffee was warm. Breakfast always came to the suite on time, and it tasted great!
