A Photo Tour of Clevedon Court

Clevedon Court is a medieval manor house on Court Hill in Clevedon, North Somerset, England, and dates back to the the early 14th century. Now owned by the National Trust, the manor is still managed by the Elton family.

I hope you enjoy this photo tour. Later on in this blog post, you would notice that most of the house’s interior rooms has an info sheet photo added for a more detailed appreciation of the décor.

A bit more about Clevedon Court…

Manor Exterior & Gardens

Octagon

Located on the west end of the garden, the octagon was originally a vista that included the sea, moor and Mendip hills. It was altered in 1780.

Summer House

Similar to the time period of the octagon, the Victorian-style roofed Summer house is a rustic shelter.

Round Tower

The doorway, windows and adjoining wall appear contemporary to the medieval manor elements. The half in and out stone water basin of the tower was made to fit. Despite its unknown function, the Round Tower is a staple building at Clevedon Court.

The Clevedon Elton's Role in the Slave Trade

Despite the overall disappointing connection of the Clevedon Elton's investment to the slave trade, it is very important that the National Trust highlights the causes and influencing factors, both negative and positive, that allowed these families, and their descendants, the mass display of wealth we see today. This way we can all make an informed opinion, and not negate the reality and how it shaped today's world.
